1154 Cedarwood, also known as the Cohen-Fumero House, is one of the few remaining high-style mid-century modern homes in Charlotte, NC. Williams Farrow Builder co-owner Charlie Miller purchased this home in Summer of 2019 with the intention to preserve this designated Charlotte Historic Landmark property.
Designed by noted architect Murray Whisnant and constructed by Gus Vinroot in 1960/1961, this house was originallly designed and built for owners and artists Herb Cohen and Jose Fumero. The house became a center for the creative and social life of the artistic community in Charlotte which lasted throughout their ownership.
Once the home was purchased, preservation began right away. Over the years the house has fallen into a serious level of disrepair. Leaking roof, rotten wood, substantial deferred maintenance, and questionable 1990's kitchen and bathroom 'renovations' among other challenges.
